Cable & Power

At a time when the Traffic Management Act has given local authorities and other stakeholders a greater say in how and when utility works are carried out, it is vital for electricity providers to secure the services of utility contractors who understand the complexities of working within the highway as well as on private land, and the need to safeguard all stakeholder interests.
Eco Drill has considerable experience of installing both low and high voltage electric cabling networks, including the installation of underground duct networks, sub-ducts and fibre optic cables nationwide and the installation of low voltage (33kv) to high voltage (120kv) cable. Eco Drill works on behalf of main contractors and national electric power supply companies, offering a complete package including associated civil engineering activities (sub-station construction, shaft sinking etc) along with project management and other support services.

No Dig Technology

Traditionally the laying of power cables, ducting or, in the case of rail, concrete troughs is undertaken using traditional civil engineering open-cut methods. However, where work necessitates crossing an obstruction, such as a road, river or railway, Eco Drill offers no-dig solutions using directional drilling equipment thereby minimising disruption. Eco Drill delivers value for money solutions for all of these installation methods.

For open-cut works Eco Drill favours the use of foam concrete for backfill for first-time reinstatement. This method has proved to be very successful, enabling works to be progressed quickly, lessening disruption to traffic as well as negating settlement defects that can sometimes occur through the use of compacted aggregates.

Eco Drill can also pressure test duct installations to ensure the integrity of the duct and joints.

Fibre and copper cable is installed by experienced operatives using winches and fused-links to ensure that the cable is not over stressed.

The majority of equipment used is owned by Eco Drill and as such is regularly maintained and tested to ensure the safety and quality of each installation.
